A Guide to Modern Art Galleries

Art galleries introduce us to new forms of expression, help to cultivate our artistic taste, teach us and preserve cultural objects for future generations. Fatima Abdieva goes in search of Tashkent’s best spots for contemporary fine art.

Art reflects the mood and spirit of the day. An exhibition presents the artist's current view, embodying their perception of the world. In addition to museums, in recent decades, fine art galleries have opened in Tashkent to promote the country’s rising contemporary art scene, hosting exhibitions, festivals and art conferences. Here are our choices for the best galleries in Tashkent to explore contemporary Uzbek art.

Bonum Factum

Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan

The Central Exhibition Hall at the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan is one of the most well- regarded exhibition spaces for painting and fine art in Uzbekistan.

By area, it is one of the largest galleries in Central Asia and includes halls of sculpture and graphics, painting and applied art, where you can see the works of both well-known artists as well as those by the most promising fresh talent. Situated in a monumental building, the gallery balances traditional with contemporary, striving to go beyond and entering into a kind of continuous dance showing new sides to art and imagery both familiar and new. The small, adjacent park becomes an additional, open-air sculpture garden, which is particularly pleasant on one of Tashkent’s warm sunny days.
